We’re finally here peeps! Tonight your rabid anticipation will be met when MTV airs the 2012 Video Music Awards. Apparently someone thought it would be funny to make me choose between Fashion’s Night Out and the VMAs. I hate that person and FNO won because, YOLO. However, since they’ll be airing this rodeo at least another 4,784 times in the next few weeks, look out for my delayed reactions via Twitter. Now, onto the only prize that really matters:

Video of the Year

Katy Perry, “Wide Awake”

I think Katy thought that dying her hair a darker, slightly less ridiculous shade and wearing some ominious lipstick would give this video some edge. Come on girl, you’re bffs with Rihanna! No one is cooler or edgier than RiRi. You couldn’t have given her a call to approve this ish? Coulda, shoulda, woulda my friend. At least you’ll be able to show some genuine happiness when you lose to her.

Gotye, “Somebody That I Used To Know”

If you’re a surrrious #sasstag reader you’ll remember my discussion with Rez from Timeflies about this song a few months ago. Because I don’t listen to the radio, I was able to escape the incessant prevalence of this song. It’s not terrible really, but I definitely don’t want it stuck in my head all day. The video had a cool concept but homeboy really needed to not be naked for so much of it.

Rihanna, “We Found Love”

HAVE I MENTIONED THAT I LOVE THIS VIDEO? Because good lord I love this video. It makes me want to wear nothing but denim for the rest of my life and YOLO my brains out.

Drake feat. Rihanna, “Take Care”

I actually can’t believe this was even nominated. I mean, it’s a fiiine video and has some cool, artsy ideas. Plus, Rihanna is always a nice visual addition, but Video of the Year? No. They probably just wanted to make sure Drake wouldn’t spiral into depression and self-loathing over not being nominated.

M.I.A., “Bad Girls”

You know, I feel like if this song had been better, it really would have elevated the video. Buuut, it’s not. M.I.A. basically just reminded us that she knows some cool Arabs and is dresses like a wealthy, gaudy, 75 year-old woman who’s down with street wear.
